Lifestyle Factors that affect Sports Performance

Work Demands

Work affects the body depending on what we have to do at work. Work hours have increased and the time available to relax or partake in non-work related activities has decreased. As a result, stress levels have increased. Work can make you tired or your muscles lazy.

Sleep

If sleep is not balanced with work, and with training, the positive effects of exercise will not be seen. These may vary due to the pattern of training or other external demands on life, such as family and work. How much sleep you have determines how tired or refreshed you are.

Drugs

Fitness levels can be increased by removing harmful substances from a lifestyle. Harmful activities include smoking, and banned substances. A drug is something that alters the way the body works and taking drug will alter the way your body works and not always for the best.

Alcohol

The more alcohol that is consumed, the greater the effect it has on the body. Alcohol also alters the way the body works giving you less control over your body or actions.

Age

Your age affects your sports participation and age determines the condition your body is in.
